Permit? Every time I go up the North Fork, I just write "lol" on a piece of paper and put that in my pocket. Worked so far. Edit: This thread deserves a home of its own. Originally from this post.

....that works, ...especially in winter when the rangers aren't there.

Well played.
Haven't run into rangers during the summer/fall in the North Fork, either. Knock on wood?

Haven't run into rangers during the summer/fall in the North Fork, either. Knock on wood? Yup: Brian and Dave are up there regularly, and will happily leave you love notes. And now that they're seeing your picture/attitude sprayed out there, ID won't be all that difficult.

I'm sprayin it all over the place.
It'll be fun, like one of those crazy rich guys where they go and pay to hunt humans. I can be the quarry - just tell 'em to look for a ton of red!

As a bonus, here's me in several different looks: want to make sure there's no question as to my ID. I can't imagine me not fitting one of the described scenarios below while I'm "lol-permit"ing. Ninja Time: stabbing a horse: with a mustache next to other people: in case they can only see my feet: On a serious note, I understand why the permit system is there. However, after a couple no-shows on permits in the dropbox, the difficult bizarre permit system for certain areas, etc etc...combined with the fact that, most likely, the old dogs who have been doing this forever don't always bother with permits (just a guess), I find myself rolling the dice more often than not. I'd equate it to the newbies filtering water in the Sierras, and I'd bet several Canadian Loonies that the same folks crapping in bags and leaving them behind made sure they had their permit first.

No problem with that, but I would also expect no whining or complaining if you were to get fined. PS: Nice boots. I'm glad mine are getting some actual miles this year. I got more used to my other boots all last year:

Bieber Fever? I've got it. There's hope: Doctors discover vaccine for Bieber Fever. " Bieber Fever, a virulent strain of the prepubescent hysteria that has affected millions of teenage girls worldwide since the early 1960s, is transmitted not just through CDs, merchandising and concerts but - dangerously - through YouTube, Twitter and illegal downloads."

You ladies are cracking me up. I'm definitely not one to whine - so worry not. Side note: you do realize that I'm becoming your color-coded-partner-in-crime, MT. I'm slowly turning into a red blob. I'm on a mission.
Wagga, thanks for the info, but Bieber Fever is actually my Euphemism for herpes.
Also - I feel like I should have included a picture of me with a mustache without other people around, in case that's how the rangers find me. Covering all the bases.

Hmmmmm...... maybe I'm the only one who ran into the Ranger the first time I went up last year..... Burchey, maybe an old permit with dog bites and drool on it would work. p.s. I didn't see an angle of you while you were throwing boulders :-) Now those were awesome. p.s. 2.... I'll be up there two or three times this year. If you're there, I owe you a beer. Laura's getting the Glenfiddich :-)

Here you go Quillian - walk down UBSL memory lane: How did this become a picureshowandtell? Whiskey or beer sounds nice, but not on the summit. I've had bad luck with that. To bring it back to the permit subject: let's suppose I'm leading a friend or two up the MR this summer, and they don't have permits yet for overnights in the North Fork. Odds of getting walk-in same-day early mornin permits on a weekend? Not that good I'd guess? So many question marks?

Oh yes I am, Laura. Oh yes I am! Behold: You can't stop that, Laura. It's unstoppable. I'd suggest that maybe we are actually destined to be together, but seeing that I'm a primary color, and you are a secondary color, it would just never work. Think India-caste-system.

How appropriate that you would include a dog dish.

How appropriate that you would include a dog dish. Zing!!!!!!!!! Scorched! It's for setting my canister in when the temps are low - add a little water, keeps the gas around freezing so it vaporizes. Just remembered the liners on my alti-gloves are red as well. BAM!
