Mt Whitney Zone Forums Trip Reports Mountaineers Route Feb 4th-5th 2012

Tommy B and Adam B attacked the Mountaineers Route Feb 4th and 5th for an amazing Ice climb at UBSL and scramble to the Summit!

The conditions were challenging but fun. we started at the Portal Friday night for Camp 1. Woke up sat around 7 am strapped on the snowshoes and headed toward UBSL.

Sunday we headed out around 5am towards the Summit.

We made it!!

Nice job guys - thanks for posting. You're both looking a little like Ueli Steck there on the ice wall!

Congratulations on a good trip! It looks like you used all the technical gear for the ice above Clyde Meadow, but not on the Mountaineers Route.

Your pictures of the MR make it look like it was pretty easy to avoid any icy spots. Is that right?

Yes snowshoes were a MUST!

What were conditions like above the Notch? Did you bring any gear besides ice axe and crampons? Thanks.

above the Notch is a scramble, No snow , no Axe, no crampons..

I did not use crampons on the entire route except for the Ice Climb..

Great photo's , Ice part looked great. How was the weather, didn't look to windy. What Temp bag did you bring?

Weather was great, very little wind..

I used a 10 degree bag.. It got down around 10 degress at night!
