Mt Whitney Zone Forums The Chat Room Whitney webcam

Here is yesterday's webcam video. It shows smoke starting from the controlled burn.

Both webcams were down, so was the one at the hostel. I called the Film History museum, and they said there is power, but all cellular and internet connections are dead in the Owens Valley.

From the last time on the webcam pictures, it looks like things failed about 6:40 this morning. And now the first pictures are coming in at 12:25.

Power outage in Owens Valley last evening knocked both webcams down. Williamson cam always needs to be manually turned off and back on.

Not sure about Whitney cam. It usually comes back automatically. I'll see if I can get someone to turn its power off and on and see what happens.

Both computers restarted fine. But the computers cannot "see" the connected camera.

AAAarrrg! Seems the camera won't come back online. I'm going to have to get some replacement equipment, and make a run to Lone Pine.

...bottom line, WhitneyZone Mt Whitney webcam is out of service for a few weeks.

If anyone is in Lone Pine Sunday A.M., wagga and I plan to be at the Museum to work out whatever the problem is.

I just got back LATE last night. Would have helped you if I'd known. Was around the area for a week.

A view of Mt Whitney from the roof. Wagga noticed the moon setting over Mt Whitney just as we started to work on the roof.


As for the camera, the old one got a "Zoom Fault" on power-up. Once here at home, a few taps, and turning it on in a different mode, then back, and now it seems to work again. But it has taken some 50k pictures, so maybe it should be given a big rest.

Zooming in... I don't think it's a helicopter. It's Mother Mosquito bringing all her little monsters to the Main Mt Whitney Trail!

It's a dragonfly...

She is growing up!! She looks two feet taller since I last saw her (2 yrs ago)Age? Grade?

She's a big third grader. Turns 8 next month.

She really liked this trip: She caught four trout at Whitney Portal, and got her very own steak at Seasons.

Is she hiking/backpacking with Dad yet? That's where the fun really begins!
