Hey anyone been up to Baden-Powell lately? I already climbed Baldy twice in the last month so I'm getting tired of that. Was up at Whitney last weekend but didn't get too far due to snow. I've read Baden-Powell is pretty nice. Wondering if it's clear of snow yet. Gorgonio is still really snowy or I would check that one out.

Go try Marion Mtn Trail on San Jacinto. One of the prettiest hikes in So Cal and 4800 foot elevation gain in appx 5.5 miles. Lots of water and waterfalls, no snow on the trail. You'll love it!
Go by the rangers office first, right on the main road in Idyllwild and get a wilderness pass. If you get there before 8:00 A.M., they have them on the outside of the building and you can fill one out and slip it in the box. You do need an adventure pass to park at the trailhead, but that's the same at most trailheads.

Wow that sounds really cool thanks for the tip. This trail does not require a ride on the tram right?

No tram ride. That hike from the tram is pretty easy at 5 miles and about 3400 elevation gain. It's very popular with beginners and scouts. The Marion Mtn Trail will give your legs a real workout, especially on the downhill. As you go down, you keep asking yourself how the heck you went up that steep grade. It's gorgeous with lots of pine trees covering a good portion of the trail. The trailhead is about 5 or more miles north of Idyllwild on the 243. Take your time and bring water, snacks and a lunch for the top. Don't forget the Snickers.

Another good So Cal hike is San Bernardio Peak. It's over 10k and not nearly as crowded as Baldy, San Jancinto or San Gregornio.
The trailhead parking lot can be a little hard to find, as it's up a dirt road behind the Angels Oaks fire dept. It's a dirt parking lot.
Adventure Parking pass is required and a trail permit can be picked up at the Mill Creek Ranger station.

I love B-P and SBP, I especially like B-P in the winter and for city lights trips. SBP Trail is one of the prettiest in SoCal.
SBP is on my let's get back in shape 2011 list.
