hikealongpete:

I emailed some of my co-workers your post who "were" interested in hiking Mt. Whitney and the Sierra Nevada.

Many of my co-workers would drive 4-5 hours to Disneyland or Magic Mountain, but won't take 4 hours to drive to and around Yosemite. I guess they heard the horror stories that the road through Wawona is windy and that the valley is bumper-to-bumper. My wife and I live in Coarsegold and prefer the Mariposa-El Portal route. Yes, a little longer, but seeing the Merced River makes it all worthwhile. Picking up some wild blackberries makes the journey even more pleasurable.

There are some here at work who have NEVER been to YNP and have lived and worked in Fresno, Madera, or the San Joaquin Valley all of their life.

I told them about the lottery process and how much the permits cost per person. They "cringed" saying at $15.00 is way too much for their budget. I asked them, "How much is a day pass to Disneyland?"

Hopefully your videos will spark an interest. They have no idea what they're missing!

Get up, gear up, get out, get going, and git'r done!

Ah, The Gr8 Yd Opn.

Have fun...

Journey well...
