I'm going to look into this. I'm 215 and yes, like to eat. It's accepted that the Whitney Main Trail hike burns 3000 calories for a "normal" hiker on a one day hike, whatever normal means, but I certainly don't think any research has been put into it. I usually just guesstimate 100 calories per mile on any terrain since it's harder going up and supposedly easier going down (which may seem easier, except on the knees and hips.) Adding the backpack would certainly lead to more calorie loss.

Are you having trouble maintaining 225 or getting some off?
