There is no way it is 2.8 miles between Trail Crest and the summit. I'm betting "2.8" is a typo, and was supposed to be 1.8 miles. I have always seen it as 1.9 miles. Measuring on CalTopo, the Profile comes back with 2.04 miles.
It's 1.89 miles (the old 1.9), using the shortcut (old trail, from west of the last window more directly up to the summit, shown on the "Forest Service" base layer map.).
