I am also thinking of attempting Mt Whitney this Friday. My tentative plan is sleeping at the trailhead, getting an early start (4am) on the Mountaineer's Route, and returning by the main trail. Will be self-sufficient, but it is reassuring to know I will not be the only one up there!
Do you know if the road is still snow-free and open up to the trailhead?
