It’s always hard to say about this sort of thing, as everybody is different. But maybe it might be worthwhile to consider a dayhike next time. Lots of people (who have climbed Whitney or not) seem to think that backpacking is easier. But they forget the part about carrying a 30+ pound pack up to (and back from) Trail Camp. This includes carrying that pack up the rather steep and rocky section between Mirror Lake and Trail Camp. Not to mention potentially spending a cold and miserable night there. When dayhiking, you can travel light and avoid all problems associated with backpacking. Of course, I am not saying that dayhiking would have necessarily been easier for YOU (or others in your party). But it could be. I know that I certainly would NOT find backpacking easier.
