After seeing Crater Lake, drive south towards Grants Pass on OR62. There's a great walking path overlooking the Rogue River (there's a state park there). I'm a big fan of the Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park, which you can access by turning south from US199 which will take you west to the coast. This state park is mostly dirt roads, but there are many pullouts where you can gaze up at these huge trees. Eventually, you'll come out in Crescent City. Turn south on US101, and you'll also drive thru Redwood NP. There are lots of trees here as well, but personally I like the Jedidiah Smith SP. If time permits, explore some of the sideroads leading towards the ocean - I've seen bears near the mouth of the Klamath River. In Arcata, I turn east on CA299, driving thru Weaverville to Redding. Much of this drive is along the Trinity River, which has been designated as "wild and scenic". It's a beautiful loop. I usually spend the night at Grants Pass and again in Redding.

Hope this gives you some ideas.
