It was announced today that the Bishop Creek South Lake trailhead parking lot (the one that serves Bishop Pass) will be closed for repaving in September. This is long overdue at "pothole city", but will cause a certain amount of inconvenience for hikers.

If you are planning to hike to or over Bishop Pass, or return that way, in September, you might have to alter your plans somewhat. Very limited parking will still be available along the South Lake road above Parcher's Resort in designated spaces only and below Parcher's Resort in a wide dirt area. Roadside parking from Parcher's Resort to South Lake, outside of designated spaces, is not allowed.

Questions regarding the closure should be directed to the White Mountain ranger station in Bishop.

Cars left at the South Lake trailhead parking lot in September will probably get towed to someplace in Inyo County...
