Mount Rainier National Park officials said the search for missing day hiker, Karen Sykes, was suspended at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
The National Park Service didn't give an explanation and said it would release more information as it could.
Earlier Saturday, park spokeswoman Patti Wold said six ground crews, including two Kittatas County dog teams, were searching an expanded area further out from the Owyhigh Lakes Trail. Air operations were also supporting search efforts.
The search area was in steep, rugged terrain with snow cover starting at the 4500-6500 foot level. Wold said safety concerns for Sykes and ground crews included snow bridges, tree wells, and steep, wet, and slippery terrainMore here
