That is a nice area to hike. I have hiked that route several times in a trans-sierra day hike. It has great aspen colors, too, if one can hit it early to mid-October.

With horses, they must have gone over and back -- it would be quite a drive to get a horse trailer from Edison Lake all the way over to the other side.

Reading more, I see they drove back over Tioga Pass. And talk of lost stock, and someone missing stock in Sandy Meadow (that's near Crabtree R.S.) When I was hiking through there, I met a packer who was on foot because his horses had run off. Must be quite a problem. I would hate that!
