As I understand Longabear's interest and intent -- it is NOT for a rim to rim hike but but for one or any of scores of other hikes in the canyon. (For example, a permit is NOT required for the rim to rim day hike.)
If so, he/she will have found that the information in the other thread is more or less inapplicable. (?)
