Just as a quick note, in 1969 while camped at Guitar lake during an electrical storm a young man was in the shelter on Whitney and went into shock after the strike. He wasn't killed, but up until that time I wasn't aware that helicopters could make it to the top. Through the good fortune of a radio equipped ranger, a chopper was called in and we watched it land on the summit to pick up the boy.
