I've snowshoed out towards Parker Lake and the cross country sking area between Mammoth and June...just stay out of the tracks.
I just haven't done that much snowshoeing up that way. If I were to go up there in the winter, I would just bring my maps, compass, GPS and find something that looks interesting.
