The SPOT folks should set up a " Tell Your SPOT Unit survival Story" on a website, because I have heard and read many many stories about people forgetting them here and there and finding them on the road -- hours later -- in perfect working order.

I have SPOT, Sr., and I carry it in the pocket of my backpack belt, and it seems to work just fine. I used to carry it the same way you carry yours, Steve, but I lost it once during one of the rest stops when I flung off the backpack. Being in the pocket does not comply with the "upright" position that is instructed, but it seems to work fine. Drawback is that it IS like carrying a brick!
