The problem is that the "easy" creek has not been consistantly easy this season. THus, the rise in popularity of the old trail.

As far as are you on the correct trial or not, as Akichow mentioned: if you do not see a very obvious, well trod "trail" in front of you, than you are NOT on the old trail. No need for any scary adventures if you apply this credo.
